IV Flamenco Biënnale Nederland

Since its founding in 2006, the Flamenco Biënnale Netherlands has shown the flamenco in exciting alliances with jazz, contemporary dance and music and other musical worlds. The theme of this fourth edition will be the ‘Idas y Vueltas’: the rhythms, songs and dances that went ‘back and forth’ between Spain and its former colonies in South America. The musical oscillation between Andalusia and Catalonia will be addressed in the ‘Focus Catalonia’ program, which includes the singer Mayte Martín making her Dutch debut at the festival. The 2013 edition spotlights two distinguished artists. Dancer, choreographer and flamenco pioneer Israel Galván shows us with two performances, La Curva and the Dutch premiere of his long-awaited latest creation ‘Lo Real/The Real’, why he is called the ‘Nijinsky’ of the flamenco. Carmen Linares, the grande dame of the flamenco song, makes her grandiose comeback in the Netherlands. As artist-in-residence this flamenco diva opens the festival with a poetic journey through the flamenco and continues her voyage with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble. The Flamenco Biënnale pulls out all the stops in its fourth edition to celebrate the art of flamenco in all its varieties.
